I was asked earlier how I liked my new job. Actually people ask me that all the time recently ... (wondering why that might be)
Anyway my response was "I LOVE the new job! It's nice to be back in the corporate world collecting a weekly paycheck instead of peanuts from the circus ringmaster."
Apparently this was a comical response as it did invoke laughter from the other party. I was being serious. As anyone who has ever worked in a retail setting can attest to not only do you work for peanuts (otherwise knows as bubkiss, squat, or sh!t) but it feels a lot like being in the circus. You are forced to dress in uniforms (clown suit, costume); you're constantly on stage performing for the customer, and management in some cases, and the spot light shines brightly on you with each and every transaction. The customers, and occasionally management, are animals (substitute lions, tigers, bears, etc. as needed) and there are always messes to clean up. Sounds an awful lot like the circus to me.
